The vm2email.com SMTP Relay service is a free service offered by vm2email.com for supported phone system models, that allows for quick and easy setup of customer phone systems of voice mail to email functionality.
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. This is the email communications protocol that is, by far, the most widely used email transfer protocol in the world, and the de facto means of sending email messages.
The SMTP Relay service is an extension of vm2email.com’s commercial transcription offering. In order to use our voice mail transcription service, your phone system must be directed to our SMTP servers so that we can properly transcribe them. We decided to offer a non-transcribed option for free that will deliver the email messages from your phone system, but not transcribe them.
The free service we provide offers the convenience of easy phone system email setup, since we send you instructions on exactly how to program your phone system. Should you ever decide to use our paid service (although you are under no obligation to), you simply sign up at our web site and we activate transcription; there is nothing further you would need to do on your phone system.
Yes, it’s really free. In return for there being no charge, we do place a small line ad at the bottom of each email relayed to advertise our paid service. You are never under any obligation to use our paid service.
There is an online form to fill out with basic customer information (and reseller information if you are a phone system reseller), upon which detailed
instructions will be generated and emailed to you with the specific settings needed for your installation.
Each phone system is different, and the ability of your phone system to provide voice mail to email functionality will depend on whether it has been engineered to provide that capability. Depending upon the particular phone system brand, there may be additional equipment and/or licensing (with an associated cost) required for this to work. If you are not sure whether your phone system offers this capability natively, you should contact your phone system reseller to help you determine whether there is anything additional required.
Each customer must use a different set of credentials. If you wish, in scenarios where a single customer has multiple physical phone systems, you may use the same set of credentials at up to ten (10) of the systems. It is forbidden to use the same set of credentials for more than one customer/business.
No. In order to protect the integrity of our SMTP Relay service, only emails originating from your phone system will be relayed, and emails from any other source (such as your desktop email application) will be rejected.
Because vm2email.com does not have control over third-party servers, the recipient’s email device, or the email specification
itself, no one, including vm2email.com, can guarantee this. Email, while ubiquitous, is generally understood to be an insecure
method of communication.
